Saakan is a prominent local African restaurant in the Plateau city- center of Abidjan.
With a very limited budget, we solicited the help and inspiration of several local artisans. All the furniture was refurbished or made locally. We collaborated with the local artisans to adapt their art and artifacts into interior design.

The result was an historic building very well-fitted with a restaurant exhibiting various African references.

The center-piece aquariumhighlights freshwater fish from Malawi. It was made locally and is integrated into the millwork. As a play on wooden stools from the village, we cut the stools and integratedthem into the plaster of the walls. The bar is a juxtaposition of modern red quartz with a carved Senufo wood panel.
